For the sake of the simplicity we'll call the modern ones mod-changed.
Before everything
Between 2015 (also stated 2013, needs fact checking) and 2023 years the place was pretty much unmoderated and the rules were standard: coaxing only the memes. But eventually the memes ran out and people started posting comics, self inserts, etc.

Mod interview (Q4 2025):

Mod overthrowal I'm not sure, but sloppy content yeah definitely. There was a whole year long period where smuggies disguised as snafus ran the subreddit to the ground, thanks to the fact that there wasn't any mods that cared about the subs og purpose things just kept getting worse and worse, until finally pigeon doctor told redditorson to give me mod perms, and the rest is what you already know really

-----

About the mod overthrowal part, I havent been with this sub for more than 2 years and mox has only modded the place for 5 years despite this subreddit being almost 13 years old

After mod changes
Rules were made more strict. Definitions of a snafu and a smuggie was made more and more clearer and it pretty much became the place you know it as.

Back in January 31st 2013, a subreddit that now goes by the name r/coaxedintoasnafu was created, and with it a thriving community was born. The subreddits purpose was ultimately simple, to badly draw memes. Due to how change is and how repetitive that type of content has become, additions and extras were bound to happen. Such as tropes, trends, game mechanics, and even subreddit related posts. But that in of itself is an abridged shortened version of this communities wide and expansive history. == Snafus ==
A snafu in its most simple form is a badly drawn meme. No message, no opinion, just a badly drawn or traced meme. As discussed earlier that has changed to include other meme like topics such as trends, tropes, subreddits, and games. It also now has extras that you are allowed to use when coaxing one of these topics, that being verbosification or simplification of text.
Smuggies are opinionated, strawman arguments, or "I like this, the other bad" type of argument. They're in nature the complete opposite of snafus but that doesn't mean that they are inherently wrong or don't have a right to exist, after all r/smugideologyman exists to house these type of posts.

When a snafu is created for the oc than it feels Unnatural and forced, when an oc is created for the Snafu than it feels perfectly natural. Examples such as:
* Poopen farden
* Sixteena aka Sixteenth note chan
* Dipshit289
* Murder Clean Up Guy
* Murderbeast

And so on and so forth.

There are some exceptions such as characters that aren't ocs but have been reused a ton in the community, such as
* Frieza
* Black Ops Guy
* Awesome eagle catching a base ball
* All Rounder
